HOLIDAY PARTY

If you plan on attending our holiday party this Sunday, December 6^th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at North Florida Rehab and Specialty Care, please let us know ASAP! We will be giving thanks to our WONDERFUL volunteers and bringing some holiday cheer to the residents at North Florida.

VOLUNTEERING AROUND THE HOLIDAYS

As this joyful holiday season is upon us, it is important to be mindful as we visit the nursing home that the holidays are not always the happiest time of the year for the residents there. Many residents watch a lot of TV, and it seems like every other commercial these days shows a happy family out shopping together or sitting around the dinner table. This of course just leads to increased feelings of loneliness and the anxiety of questions such as: Will anyone remember to buy me a present? Will they forgive me that I don't have the money to buy them anything? Will my children even come to see me? My advice is not to leave your holiday cheer at home when you visit the nursing home, but just to be sensitive to residents who might need an extra hug and a reminder that they aren't forgotten by us.

Sunday, December 6^th from 2-4:00 p.m.—Caroling & Volunteer Appreciation Party at North Florida Rehab & Specialty Care—(please see information above)

Monday, December 7^th at 7:00 p.m., Holiday Celebration at Signature-- The wonderful group at Signature will be strolling around the hallways to sing carols and other seasonal songs to those unable to join group events in the main dining room during the holiday. This event has been done in previous years but this year we will be joined by 4 or 5 of the middle-schoolers from PK Yonge's performing arts program.

Tuesday, December 22nd—Flute Concert at Parklands Nursing and Rehab, Time TBA—Christine Alicot, a local flute teacher, will be bringing her students for a concert at Parklands Nursing and Rehab. Volunteers are welcome to enjoy the music and share the fun with the residents.

Thursday, December 31st, 2:30 PM -- Birthday and New Year’s Celebration -- Help us wish a happy birthday to all residents of Parklands Nursing and Rehab with birthdays in December. Meet us in the dining room where we will have singing and cake. Volunteers are needed to help gather the residents together, serve the cake, sing, clean up, etc.  Do you play an instrument or have some other talent?  We are always looking for new entertainment for the party – let us know! 

Date TBA-- Steve’s Casino at Parklands – A monthly event at Parklands Nursing and Rehab – By popular demand, Steve visits Parklands to deal blackjack for the residents (who play for prizes).  He can always use some extra dealers, so let us know if you’d like to come join the fun!

Date TBA – “Storytellers Society” at Parklands- These group gatherings are a wonderful way to share, reminisce and truly get to know the residents at Parklands Nursing and Rehab.
