Nursing Home News--November 2014

This is the November 2014 newsletter of Friends Across the Ages Nursing Home Network

THANK YOU, HAVEN HOSPICE

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Patricia Krogh and Courtney Kirie for their wonderful presentations for us at our Fall Friends Across the Ages Speaker Series this past month, and thank you also for so graciously hosting us at Haven Hospice. All who attended found much food for thought as we considered the ways that what we do as Friends Across the Ages volunteers overlaps with the work of Hospice. We hope to find ways to work together more in the future!

SAVE THE DATE FOR THE

FRIENDS ACROSS THE AGES HOLIDAY CAROLING PARTY

Mark your calendars now for the annual Friends Across the Ages Holiday Party!  It will be held Sunday, December 14th from 2:00-4:00pm at Park Meadows Health and Rehab.  This annual event has become a long standing tradition with our organization.  We start with some caroling with the residents of NFRSC in the dining room, and then proceed to the conference room for holiday treats, volunteer recognitions, and holiday visiting time with one another.  All volunteers, supporters, friends and family are welcome. Watch for more information in our December Nursing Home News

NOVEMBER SPECIAL EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

Each month, in addition to groups that meet weekly for regular volunteering/visitation, Friends Across the Ages sponsors a few special events and activities at various nursing homes. These events require no ongoing commitment, though we do ask you to let us know ahead of time if you plan to attend any of these events. Here are our special events for November:

Saturday, November 1st, 10:30 – 11:30 AM – Flute performance at GHCC—The students of local flute teacher Christine Alicot will be bringing their music to the residents of Gainesville Health Care Center. All are welcome to come enjoy the performance with the residents.

Wednesday, November 5th, 10:30 – 11:30 AM – “Storytellers’ Society” at Parklands – These monthly group gatherings are a wonderful way to share, reminisce, and truly get to know the residents at Parklands Nursing and Rehab.

Wednesday, November 12th, 10:30 – 11:30 AM – Casino Time at Parklands – A monthly event at Parklands Nursing and Rehab – Come help deal blackjack and poker for the residents (who play for prizes), or just help cheer them on!

Thursday, November 20th, 2:30-3:30 PM – Birthday celebration – Help us wish a happy birthday to all residents of Parklands Nursing and Rehab with birthdays in October. Meet us in the dining room where we will have singing and cake. Volunteers are needed to help gather the residents together, serve the cake, sing, clean up, etc.  Do you play an instrument or have some other talent?  We are always looking for new entertainment for the party – let us know!
