Nursing Home News - February 2010
Volunteer Recruitment We
are always looking for quality volunteers to help enrich the lives of nursing
home residents. One way we recruit
volunteers is through tabling sessions where we inform passersby about what we
do at nursing homes. There are many
people who want to volunteer but just do not know where to start. Friends Across the
Ages participated in the UF Volunteer Fair on January 26th. Special Request From Parklands Enjoy movies?
Parklands needs a volunteer to start a movie
and make popcorn for residents on Saturdays at 7:00 PM. It would be helpful if the volunteer would be
willing to pick a movie from the Redbox down the street from Parklands as
well. Volunteers would not have to stay
for the duration of the movie but are welcome to! UPCOMING EVENTS AT NURSING HOMES Thursday,
February 11th, 1:30PM - “Storytellers Society” at Parklands- These group
gatherings are a wonderful way to share, reminisce and truly get to know the
residents at Parklands Nursing and Rehab. Friday,
February 12th, 10:00 AM - Reaction Reading at Park Meadows-- Lead by board
member Vi Asmuth, Ph.D.,
this event will be held at Park Meadows.
Residents will be invited to participate in a program that consists of choral
reading of poetry. The group reacts with active participation, knowledge,
opinions, feelings, and imagination. Vi did a
study monitoring the results of this small group program in three nursing
homes in the Fort Myers/Cape Coral area. One facility liked the program so much
that she continued leading groups there for five years. If you find this
concept interesting, you are welcome to come out to participate. Monday,
February 15th, 7:00 PM – Valentine Goodies -- Come join Jean Lansford and the Signature Healthcare volunteer group hand
out Valentine goods and treats to the residents. The volunteers will be split into groups and visiting
each resident to bring them a Valentine’s Day goodie. Wednesday,
February 17th, 1:30 PM – “Friend’s Time” -- Each
month we will host a different activity for the residents of Signature
Healthcare. The monthly event will be
based on resident and volunteer input.
This month we are assisting residents make Valentine’s crafts. If you have an idea for next month’s activity
please let us know! Thursday,
February 18th, 1:30 PM - Casino Time at Parklands -- A monthly event
at Parklands Nursing and Rehab – By popular demand, Steve visits
Parklands to deal blackjack and poker for the residents (who play for
prizes). He can always use some extra dealers, so let us know if you’d
like to come join the fun! Thursday,
February 25th, 2:30 PM - Birthday Celebration -- Help us wish a
happy birthday to all residents of Parklands
Nursing and Rehab with birthdays in February. Meet us in the dining
room where we will have singing and cake. Volunteers are needed to help
gather the residents together, serve the cake, sing, clean up, etc. Do
you play an instrument or have some other talent? We are always looking
for new entertainment for the party – let us know! MORE
