Volunteer Training Session at Signature Health Care

On March 21st from 7:00-7:30 PM, Friends Across the Ages is hosting a Volunteer Training Session at Signature Health Care. This event is open to all volunteers who wish to enhance their visitation experiences by learning more about communicating with the elderly. The session will be lead by Vi Asmuth, Ph.D., who is also our Park Meadows Group Visitation Coordinator. She has extensive background in communication and currently teaches at the University of Florida, in addition to volunteering her time in many other capacities. The training session is not mandatory but if you wish to attend, please notify Heather Geidel at

Monday, March 21st, 10:30-11:30 AM- “Sunshine Group” at Palm Garden: Volunteers meet in the foyer at Palm Garden at 10:20 and visit several residents in their rooms, followed by group time in a small private dining room to enjoy coffee, goodies and sharing of life events. (Space is very limited, so this event is not open to all volunteers.)

TBA- “Arts and Crafts Hour” at Signature: Come out and get crafty with the residents of Signature Health Care as we attempt to create various spring-themed projects!

Tuesday, March 22nd, 10:00-11:00 AM – “Let Your Imagination Blossom” (Reaction Reading) at Park Meadows: We welcome you to join Vi Asmuth, Ph.D., and the volunteers of Park Meadows Health and Rehab for a choral poetry reading program. Residents react with active participation, knowledge, opinions, feelings, and imagination.

TBA – “Spring Break in Las Vegas” at Parklands: Come watch the Parklands Nursing and Rehab dining room transform into the casino floor at the MGM Grand. Volunteers will help deal the cards or team up with residents to play poker, blackjack, craps, and other games for fun prizes and the thrill of being named “King or Queen of the High Rollers.” No prior gambling experience required!

Thursday, March 24th, 6:00-7:00 PM- “Wild, Wild West” BINGO at Gainesville Health Care Center: Celebrate Spring in the Wild, Wild West as the residents of Gainesville Health Care Center play BINGO and compete for various prizes!

Saturday, March 26th, 10:30AM-12:00PM – “Celebrate Spring” at NFRSC: Spring is in the air at North Florida Rehab & Specialty Care Center! Please join us for a celebration of the season as we team up with residents on a kid-friendly craft project and sip on lemonade. This is a great event for the whole family to enjoy!

Sunday, March 27th, 2:00-4:00 PM- Volunteer Appreciation Party at Barr Systems: We would like to thank all of our volunteers (old and new) for their dedication and service! Family and friends are welcome to join us for an afternoon of food, fun, and fellowship.

Thursday, March 3rd at 1:30-2:30 PM - “Storytellers’ Society” at Parklands: These group gatherings are a wonderful way to share, reminisce, and truly get to know the residents at Parklands Nursing and Rehab.

Monday, March 21st, 7:00-7:30 PM – “Volunteer Training Session” at Signature: All volunteers are welcome to attend this upcoming training session at Signature Health Care. It is not mandatory but highly recommended, as we hope it will provide valuable insight on communicating with elderly residents.

Thursday, March 31st, 2:30-3:00 PM - "Birthday Celebration" at Parklands: Help us wish a happy birthday to all residents of Parklands Nursing and Rehab with birthdays in March. Meet us in the dining room where we will have singing and cake. Volunteers are needed to help gather the residents together, serve the cake, sing, clean up, etc.  Do you play an instrument or have some other talent?  We are always looking for new entertainment for the party – let us know!
