Nursing Home News- June 2009
SCHOOL IS OUT FOR SUMMER, BUT VOLUNTEERING IS STILL IN SESSION!
With the end of the school year
fresh in our minds, most people are thinking of beaches, sun and summer
BBQ’s. However, there is no vacation
for the residents in our local nursing homes.
They are still looking for the same weekly visits and companionship we
aim to give them the rest of the year.
Now is a great time to spend extra time with special friends and
encourage friends and family to start volunteering as well. If you are looking for some activities to
do with your resident, here are a few that revolve around summer:
·
Bring pictures or shells from a recent beach visit and
talk with your resident about their favorite trips to the ocean.
·
Read and discuss poems about the summer season.
·
Bring in a special summer treat, like Popsicles (be
sure to check with their nurse first!).
·
Discuss their favorite vacation memories
