Nursing Home News--February 2015

This is the February 2015 newsletter of Friends Across the Ages nursing home outreach

Tuesday, February 10th –6:30-7:30 PM

Gainesville Health Care Center

Friends Across the Ages is hosting a special “Valentine BINGO Party” at Gainesville Health Care Center on Tuesday, February 10th at 6:30pm. We will have Valentine decorations, goodies, prizes, and flowers for the residents. We also will have brief musical interludes between BINGO games with old love songs like “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” and “My Blue Heaven.” (Not everyone has to sing along—only if you want to!) If you play a musical instrument, you are welcome to bring it with you!

This event is a great opportunity for those who have been interested in volunteering at a nursing home and want to get their feet wet. It is also a great chance for our regular volunteers to come check out another facility and perhaps meet some volunteers that you don’t normally see. Please contact us at for more information or to RSVP.

SPRING FESTIVAL (April 6th-12th)

Our annual Spring Festival is coming up very soon! The festival will be held the week of April 6th-12th, with events at the various nursing homes we serve throughout the week. We will conclude the festival with our annual Spring Volunteer Appreciation Party on Sunday, April 12th from 12:30-2:30pm. The party is always a special time, held in the beautiful courtyard at Barr Systems with food, music, and special recognitions for volunteers. All members and supporters of Friends, plus family, friends, and anyone else who is interested are welcome and encouraged to attend this celebration, which is our biggest event of the year. All are welcome at any of the events of the Spring Festival as well. Watch our March “Nursing Home News” for more details on all of the events!

Each month, in addition to groups that meet weekly for regular volunteering/visitation, Friends Across the Ages sponsors a few special events and activities at various nursing homes. These events require no ongoing commitment, though we do ask you to let us know ahead of time if you plan to attend any of these events so that we can be on the lookout for you. If you would like more information about our weekly visitation groups and becoming a regular Friends Across the Ages volunteer, please let us know that as well.
