Nursing Home News- November 2009
HOLIDAY PARTY Please be
sure to mark your calendars for our annual holiday party. It will be held on Sunday, December 6th
from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at North Florida Rehab and Specialty Care. We will be giving thanks to our WONDERFUL
volunteers and bringing some holiday cheer to the residents at North Florida. More specific details about the event will be
sent out soon, but please planning on joining us for food, drinks and fun! NEW BOARD MEMBERS The Board
of Friends Across the Ages would like to introduce our
three new board members. Huy Pham(Volunteer at Signature), Kim Mitchell (Volunteer
at Signature) and Judy Wibbelsman (Volunteer at Park
Meadows) bring with them many hours of volunteering experience and compassion
for the residents they visit. We are
thrilled to have their input when making decisions about the future of Friends
Across the Ages. Welcome to the group! UPCOMING EVENTS AT NURSING HOMES Friday,
November 13th, 10:00 a.m., Reaction Reading at Park Meadows-- Lead by board member
Vi Asmuth, Ph.D., this event
will be held at Park Meadows.
Residents will be invited to participate in a program that consists of choral
reading of poetry. The group reacts with active participation, knowledge,
opinions, feelings, and imagination. Vi did a
study monitoring the results of this small group program in three nursing
homes in the Fort Myers/Cape Coral area. One facility liked the program so much
that she continued leading groups there for five years. If you find this
concept interesting, you are welcome to come out to participate. Thursday,
November 19th, 2:30 PM -- Birthday Celebration -- Help us wish a
happy birthday to all residents of Parklands
Nursing and Rehab with birthdays in November. Meet us in the dining
room where we will have singing and cake. Volunteers are needed to help
gather the residents together, serve the cake, sing, clean up, etc. Do
you play an instrument or have some other talent? We are always looking
for new entertainment for the party – let us know! Date
TBA-- Steve’s Casino at Parklands – A monthly event at Parklands Nursing and
Rehab – By popular demand, Steve visits Parklands to deal blackjack for
the residents (who play for prizes). He can always use some extra
dealers, so let us know if you’d like to come join the fun! Date
TBA – “Storytellers Society” at Parklands- These group gatherings are a
wonderful way to share, reminisce and truly get to know the residents at
Parklands Nursing and Rehab. MORE
