Nursing Home News--April 2014

This is the April 2014 newsletter of Friends Across the Ages nursing home outreach

SPRING FESTIVAL CONTINUES ALL THIS WEEK!

SPRING VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION SUNDAY!

Have you ever thought about visiting a nursing home? Are you a regular Friends volunteer who wonders what visiting the other nursing homes might be like? Friends Across the Ages is hosting a weeklong festival of events at each of the nursing homes we serve. These events began this past Sunday, with a drum circle at Palm Garden, and continued Monday with a “Celebrate Spring” craft event at NFRSC. Both events went really well, and were a lot of fun for all. Tonight, we continue the festivities with a Luau and BINGO event at Gainesville Health Care Center. Tomorrow there will be a “Spring Break in Las Vegas” casino time at Parklands. Thursday you won’t want to miss the Karaoke Party at Park Meadows where we will sing hits from across the ages. And on Saturday there is a Garden Party BINGO at Signature Health Care. All of these events are open to anyone who wants to try something new—see below for a complete listing of the remaining Spring Festival events, or click here to view the flyer on our website. You can also check out our facebook event page here.

The festival will culminate in our annual Spring Volunteer Appreciate Party on Sunday, April 6th from 2-4pm in the beautiful courtyard at Barr Systems. This party is our biggest event of the year so we encourage all volunteers, supporters, family and friends to join us! Please contact info@acrosstheages.org for more information or to RSVP for any of the Spring Festival events.

SPRING/SUMMER EDITION OF THE BRIDGE COMING SOON—

DO WE HAVE YOUR ADDRESS?

Later this month, we will be sending out the Spring/Summer edition our semi-annual “snail mail” newsletter, The Bridge. We’ll be sharing pictures and stories from the Spring Festival, and much more. Please let us know if you have recently moved, or if you did not receive our newsletter this past December—that may mean we do not have your correct address. Thank you for being part of the Friends Across the Ages community!

SPRING FESTIVAL EVENTS STILL TO COME…

Tuesday, April 1st, 6:30-7:30 PM – Luau and BINGO at Gainesville Health Care Center: Palm trees and sandy beaches may be far away so we’re bringing the tropics to us for our annual spring festival event! Please join us for an evening of island treats and BINGO with the residents of GHCC.

Wednesday, April 2nd, 10:00-11:30 AM – “Spring Break in Las Vegas” at Parklands: Come watch the Parklands Nursing and Rehab dining room transform into the casino floor at the MGM Grand. Volunteers will help deal the cards or team up with residents to play poker, blackjack, craps, roulette and other games for fun and prizes. No prior gambling experience required!

Thursday, April 3rd, 2:30-3:30 PM – Karaoke Party at Park Meadows: Join the residents of Park Meadows for an afternoon of singing the hits from across the ages…oldies, not-so-oldies, and everything in between. Even if you don’t want to sing, come cheer the singers on!

Saturday, April 5th, 2:00-3:00 PM – Garden Party BINGO at Signature: The volunteers and residents of Signature Health Care will share a delightful afternoon BINGO party with spring-themed decorations, refreshments, and prizes. Come join the festivities!

And the grand finale…

Sunday, April 6th, 2:00-4:00 PM – Volunteer Appreciation Party at Barr Systems: We would like to thank all of our volunteers (old and new) for their dedication and service at this, our biggest event of the year! Family and friends are welcome to join us for an afternoon of food, music, ice cream, and special recognitions for volunteers in the beautiful courtyard at Barr Systems. We will have something for all of our volunteers so please come if you can!

Please contact info@acrosstheages.org for more information or to RSVP for any of the above events.
