The Spring Festival was a success!

Friends Across the Ages would like to thank everyone who came out to the Spring Festival events and Volunteer Party; it was great to see everyone! The residents had a wonderful time decorating potted plants, making Spring-related crafts, and participating in the casino games, Reaction Reading, and B-I-N-G-O! Look for photos and stories in our upcoming newsletter! Thank you, also, to the volunteers who came out to the Training Session at Signature Health Care.

Welcome, Keo, our new Administrative Coordinator!

Friends Across the Ages would like to welcome our new Administrative Coordinator, Keo Opton-Fox! Keo is taking over for Heather Geidel, who is leaving Gainesville in just a few weeks. We are very excited to have Keo on board and look forward to the new season ahead! Our upcoming Spring Newsletter will include a more formal introduction on Keo…stay tuned!

Spring Newsletter: coming soon to a mailbox near you!

Be on the lookout for the Friends Across the Ages Spring Newsletter! We plan to include a variety of stories and photos from the Spring Festival events, as well as recent Volunteer Anniversaries and a Resident Spotlight story. If your address has changed, please notify Heather Geidel at heather.geidel@acrosstheages.org.

New Group at Woodlands Care Center

Friends Across the Ages would like announce a new opportunity for one-to-one volunteers. Keo Opton-Fox has offered to coordinate a group of volunteers at the Woodlands Care Center, located at 7207 SW 24th Ave (at the intersection of Tower Rd and SW 24th Avenue). The scheduled meeting time is 2:00-3:00 on Wednesday afternoons, but the time is flexible. Please contact Keo at (352) 870-9800 or keo@acrosstheages.org for more information.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Thursday, April 7th at 1:30-2:30 PM - “Storytellers’ Society” at Parklands: These group gatherings are a wonderful way to share, reminisce, and truly get to know the residents at Parklands Rehab and Nursing.

Thursday, April 14th, 1:30-2:30 PM – “Casino Time” at Parklands: A monthly event at Parklands Rehab and Nursing – By popular demand, Steve visits Parklands to deal blackjack and poker for the residents (who play for prizes).  He can always use some extra dealers, so let us know if you’d like to come join the fun!

Tuesday, April 19th, 10:30-11:30 AM - “Reaction Reading” at Park Meadows: We welcome you to join Vi Asmuth, Ph.D., and the volunteers of Park Meadows Health and Rehab for a choral poetry reading program. Residents react with active participation, knowledge, opinions, feelings, and imagination. Vi did a study monitoring the results of this small group program in three nursing homes in the Fort Myers/Cape Coral area. One facility liked the program so much that Vi continued leading groups there for five years!

Thursday, April 28th, 2:30-3:30 PM - "Birthday Celebration" at Parklands: Help us wish a happy birthday to all residents of Parklands Rehab and Nursing with birthdays in April. Meet us in the dining room where we will have singing and cake. Volunteers are needed to help gather the residents together, serve the cake, sing, clean up, etc.  Do you play an instrument or have some other talent?  We are always looking for new entertainment for the party – let us know!
