With the school year well underway, we hope you are settling into a routine and that things are going well. A lot of changes happen over the summer, so we ask that if you have recently moved please send us your updated address and phone number. We will be sending out our holiday newsletter before you know it and we want to make sure you receive it!

If you or someone you know has experience with Quickbooks and would like to help Friends Across the Ages keep track of our monthly expenses, please let us know. This volunteer position would likely only require about an hour or two a month.

NURSING HOMES

Friday, October 11^th, 2:30 p.m., Reaction Reading at Park Meadows-- Lead by board member Vi Asmuth, Ph.D., this event will be held at Park Meadows.  Residents will be invited to participate in a program that consists of choral reading of poetry.  The group reacts with active participation, knowledge, opinions, feelings, and imagination.  Vi did a study monitoring the results of this small group program in three nursing homes in the Fort Myers/Cape Coral area. One facility liked the program so much that she continued leading groups there for five years.  If you find this concept interesting, you are welcome to come out to participate.

Monday, October 26^th, 7:00 p.m.—Halloween Celebration at Signature—Coordinator Jean Lansford and her wonderful crew of volunteers will be dressing up in costumes and delivering candy to residents. Those who attend this event might meet the two newest members of their group, dogs Cuddles (owned by volunteer Lauren Mehnke) and Bogart (owned by coordinator Jean Lansford)!

Thursday, October 29th, 2:30 PM -- Birthday Celebration -- Help us wish a happy birthday to all residents of Parklands Nursing and Rehab with birthdays in October. Meet us in the dining room where we will have singing and cake. Volunteers are needed to help gather the residents together, serve the cake, sing, clean up, etc.  Do you play an instrument or have some other talent?  We are always looking for new entertainment for the party – let us know! 

Date TBA-- Steve’s Casino at Parklands – A monthly event at Parklands Nursing and Rehab – By popular demand, Steve visits Parklands to deal blackjack for the residents (who play for prizes).  He can always use some extra dealers, so let us know if you’d like to come join the fun!

Date TBA – “Storytellers Society” at Parklands- These group gatherings are a wonderful way to share, reminisce and truly get to know the residents at Parklands Nursing and Rehab.
