Nursing Home News -- December 2012

The annual Friends Across the Ages Holiday Party is tomorrow!  It will be held Sunday, December 2nd from 2:00-4:00pm at North Florida Rehab and Specialty Care Center.  This annual event has become a long standing tradition with our organization.  We start with some caroling with the residents of NFRSC in the dining room, then proceed to the conference room for holiday treats, volunteer recognitions, and holiday visiting time with one another.  All volunteers, supporters, friends and family are welcome.

If you are planning to attend, please RSVP to or (352) 381-1117 so we can plan to have enough food for everyone!  Directions can be found on our website:  --just scroll down till you see North Florida Rehab and Specialty Care.  We hope to see you there!

We are currently in the process of putting together our holiday mailer, with our winter edition of our newsletter, The Bridge.  If you have moved in the past year, or have other updates to your contact information, please let us know as soon as possible!  Send any updates to   And watch your mailbox in about a week or so!

As we move into the joyful holiday season, we want to be mindful that the holidays are not necessarily the happiest time for some of our friends at the nursing home.  They may be separated from family, may be remembering lost loved ones, or simply may not be feeling good.  Let’s be sensitive to residents who might need an extra hug and a reminder that they are not forgotten by us.

Tuesday, January 15, 2012, 6pm at Barr Systems

Those who attended our very first speaker series presentation this past January will remember the amazing presentation Carolyn Lukert gave on “Strategies for Effective Nursing Home Visits.”  This January she returns to get our year started off right again!  You won’t want to miss this, so mark your calendars now for Tuesday, January 15 from 6-7:30pm at Barr Systems.  More details will be forthcoming in our January edition of the Nursing Home News.

Each month, in addition to groups that meet weekly for regular volunteering/visitation, Friends Across the Ages sponsors a few special events and activities at various nursing homes.  These events require no ongoing commitment, though we do ask you to let us know ahead of time if you plan to attend any of these events so that we can be on the lookout for you.  If you would like more information about our weekly visitation groups and becoming a regular Friends Across the Ages volunteer, please let us know that as well.  Here are our special events for December:
