Nursing Home News--July 2015

This is the July 2015 newsletter of Friends Across the Ages nursing home outreach

SUMMER TEA PARTY!

On Saturday, July 18th at 2pm at Signature Health and Rehab, we are having a special tea party to celebrate summer. We will be bringing hats and scarves and other fun things for the residents—and volunteers—to wear in order to dress up. We will be serving tea (both hot and iced!) and special goodies. Our group of volunteers at Signature has done an event like this before and it was a big hit with the residents. We will also be remembering our friend Ruth Hazen who used to volunteer at Signature doing manicures every week because, as she put it, “everyone deserves to feel pretty.” Hopefully all who attend this party will feel pretty—or handsome, as the case may be—and an elegant afternoon will be had by all. For more information contact info@acrosstheages.org.

In other summer party news, a group of middle school students from Creekside Community Church will be coming to help us throw a Pirate Party for the residents at Parklands Nursing and Rehab, on Wednesday, July 8th at 10:00 AM. Betsy Thewes, one of our regular Parklands volunteers, came up with this fun idea; we are grateful the students will be there to help! It should be a swashbuckling good time.

JULY SPECIAL EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

Wednesday, July 1st, 10:30 – 11:30 AM – “Storytellers’ Society” at ParklandsThis month we are continuing to work our way through The Adventures of Davy Crockett (thanks to our volunteer John Hobbs!). We read a few chapters at each session, and pause from time to time to share any memories, stories, or comments the book might trigger. It’s a wonderful way to share, reminisce, and truly get to know the residents at Parklands Nursing and Rehab.

Wednesday, July 8th, 10:00 – 11:30 AM – Pirate Party at Parklands As mentioned above, the middle school youth from Creekside Community Church will be coming to help us throw a pirate party for the residents at Parklands Nursing and Rehab.

Wednesday, July 15th, 10:30 – 11:30 AM – Casino Time at Parklands A monthly event at Parklands Nursing and Rehab – Come help deal blackjack and poker for the residents (who play for prizes), or just help cheer them on!

Thursday, July 23rd, 2:30-3:30 PM -- Birthday celebration Help us wish a happy birthday to all residents of Parklands Nursing and Rehab with birthdays in July. Meet us in the dining room where we will have singing and cake. Volunteers are needed to help gather the residents together, serve the cake, sing, clean up, etc.  Do you play an instrument or have some other talent?  We are always looking for new entertainment for the party – let us know!
