Volunteer Training Session at Signature Health Care

On March 21st from 7:00-7:30 PM, Friends Across the Ages is hosting a Volunteer Training Session at Signature Health Care. This event is open to all volunteers who wish to enhance their visitation experiences by learning more about communicating with the elderly. The session will be lead by Vi Asmuth, Ph.D., who is also our Park Meadows Group Visitation Coordinator. She has extensive background in communication and currently teaches at the University of Florida, in addition to volunteering her time in many other capacities. The training session is not mandatory but if you wish to attend, please notify Heather Geidel at heather.geidel@acrosstheages.org.

UPCOMING EVENTS AT

NURSING HOMES

Thursday, February 3rd at 1:30 PM - “Storytellers’ Society” at Parklands- These group gatherings are a wonderful way to share, reminisce, and truly get to know the residents at Parklands Nursing and Rehab.

Tuesday, February 8th, 10:00-11:00 AM – “Reaction Reading” at Park Meadows- We welcome you to join Vi Asmuth, Ph.D., and the volunteers of Park Meadows Health and Rehab for a choral poetry reading program. Residents react with active participation, knowledge, opinions, feelings, and imagination. Vi did a study monitoring the results of this small group program in three nursing homes in the Fort Myers/Cape Coral area. One facility liked the program so much that Vi continued leading groups there for five years.

Thursday, February 10th at 1:30 PM – “Casino Time” at Parklands - A monthly event at Parklands Nursing and Rehab – By popular demand, Steve visits Parklands to deal blackjack and poker for the residents (who play for prizes).  He can always use some extra dealers, so let us know if you’d like to come join the fun!

Thursday, February 24th at 2:30 PM - "Birthday Celebration" at Parklands – Help us wish a happy birthday to all residents of Parklands Nursing and Rehab with birthdays in February. Meet us in the dining room where we will have singing and cake. Volunteers are needed to help gather the residents together, serve the cake, sing, clean up, etc.  Do you play an instrument or have some other talent?  We are always looking for new entertainment for the party – let us know!

Monday, March 21st, 7:00-7:30 PM – “Volunteer Training Session” at Signature- All volunteers are welcome to attend this upcoming training session at Signature Health Care. It is not mandatory, but recommended, as we hope it will provide valuable insight on communicating with elderly residents.
