SPRING FESTIVAL THANK YOU’S
We want to express our appreciation to
all who participated in our Friends Across the Ages Spring Festival, which was held March 18th-25th. In particular, we would like to thank those
who coordinated some of our events throughout the week, including Rosha Poudyal, Kim and Andrew
Mitchell, Keri Shinn, and Jamie Kistler.
Finally another
huge thanks to Kim and Andrew Mitchell for kindly opening their home to host
our wrap-up party. Thank you also to all
who attended, and to those who helped with food, favors, and decorations,
including Heather Geidel, Rosha
Poudyal, Laura Londono and
Robbie Curry. It was a lovely afternoon
backyard celebration. We wanted to
mention those who were especially recognized at that event:
Samantha Stilley –“Stick-to-It” Award
Martina Pořízková—“Friends
Across the Nations” Award
Stephanie Santos—Dedication Award
Laura Londono—Initiative
Award
Kim and Andrew Mitchell—Ten Year Award
Will Mitchell—“Spirit of Friends Across the Ages” Award
Thank you to all of our amazingly
dedicated and caring volunteers for all you do throughout the year!

APRIL
SPECIAL EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES
Each month, in
addition to groups that meet weekly for regular volunteering/visitation, Friends Across the
Ages sponsors a few special events and activities at various nursing
homes. These events require no ongoing
commitment, though we do ask you to let us know ahead of time if you plan to
attend any of these events so that we can be on the lookout for you. If you would like more information about our
weekly visitation groups and becoming a regular Friends Across the Ages volunteer, please
let us know that as well. Here are our
special events for April:
Wednesday, April 4th,
10:30 – 11:30 AM – “Storytellers’ Society” at Parklands – These
monthly group gatherings are a wonderful way to share, reminisce, and truly get
to know the residents at Parklands Nursing and Rehab.
Wednesday,
April 11th, 10:30 – 11:30 AM – “The Human Connection Station” at Parklands -- UF Student Marchela
Mulholland will be coming to lead our volunteers and residents in a special
activity. Essentially the exercise
involves eye gazing with a partner for 2 minutes, then answering a series of
questions. The idea is to open up
meaningful conversations, and to help participants feel a genuine connection
and vulnerability. Marcela volunteers
her time to focus this activity on populations who may feel alienated, or work
with those who desire companionship. We look forward to giving this a try at Parklands Nursing and Rehab.
Wednesday, April 18th,
10:30 – 11:30 AM – “Poker Party” at Parklands – A monthly event Parklands
Nursing and Rehab – Come help play poker with the residents, or just help
cheer them on! No real money is involved; residents play for the honor of
having our Championship Trophy for the month.
Thursday, April 26th,
2:30-3:30 PM -- Birthday celebration -- Help us wish a happy
birthday to all residents of Parklands Nursing
and Rehab with birthdays in April. Meet us in the dining room where
we will have singing and cake. Volunteers are needed to help gather the
residents together, serve the cake, sing, clean up, etc. Do you play an
instrument or have some other talent? We are always looking for new
entertainment for the party – let us know!
