Friends Across the Ages Spring Festival

Have you ever thought about visiting a nursing home? Are you a regular Friends volunteer who wonders what visiting the other nursing homes might be like? Friends Across the Ages is hosting a week long festival of events (see the full schedule below) at each of the nursing homes we serve. Spring Volunteer Appreciation Party and Raffle Extravaganza!

We will be wrapping up our Spring Festival with a Volunteer Appreciation Party in the lovely court yard at Barr Systems. This is a chance to celebrate our volunteers for all they do throughout the year to reach out to residents of nursing homes. Family and friends are welcome to join us for this afternoon of food, fun, ice-cream, and music. We will also have appreciation gifts and special recognition awards for volunteers. Need more of a reason to come out? Every volunteer that comes out to the Volunteer Appreciation Party will receive one raffle ticket and the chance to win one of several gift cards at the drawing held during the party. Increase your chances of winning by attending the Spring Festival events leading up to the Volunteer Party and earning an additional raffle ticket for each event you come out to. Don’t miss this great opportunity to visit other nursing homes and to increase your chances of winning a prize.

Spring Festival Events

Monday, April 5th, 10:20-11:40AM - Sunshine Group at Palm Garden: Meet volunteers in the foyer of Palm Garden at 10:20; then join us for individual visits in residents’ rooms; finally join the whole group as we meet in a small private dining room to enjoy coffee, goodies and sharing of life events.

Tuesday, April 6th, 2:00-3:30PM - Open Mike at GHCC: An eclectic group of musicians, including members of the official Friends Across the Ages band, “Amazing Grits”, will be performing old favorites for the residents of GHCC. All talented (and not-so-talented) musicians and singers are welcome to come out and join in.

Wednesday, April 7th, 2:00-3:30PM - Friends Time Variety Show at Signature: The volunteers of Signature are proud to present the “Friends Time Variety Show.” Come out and enjoy a fun-filled lineup that is sure to please both residents and volunteers. With a variety of live entertainment, there should be something for everyone!

Thursday, April 8th, 2:30-4:00PM - Spring Break in Las Vegas at Parklands: Come watch the Parklands dining room transform into the casino floor at the MGM Grand. Volunteers will help deal the cards or team up with residents to play poker, blackjack, craps, and other games for run prizes and the thrill of being named “King or Queen of the High Rollers.” No prior gambling experience required!

Friday, April 9th, 10:00-11:00AM - Let Your Imagination Blossom at Park Meadows: Meet in the Dining Room. Park Meadow residents enjoy “Reaction Reading” session in which they do choral reading of short poems. With imagination they take trips to other places and times.

Saturday, April 10th, 10:30-12:00PM - Celebrate Spring! at NFRSC: Spring is in the air at North Florida Rehab & Specialty Care Center! Please join us for a celebration of the season as we team up with residents on a kid-friendly craft project and sip on lemonade. This is a great event for the whole family to enjoy!

Sunday, April 11th, 2:00-4:00PM - Volunteer Appreciation Party at Barr Systems Courtyard: As mentioned above, we will be wrapping up our Spring Festival with a Volunteer Appreciation Party. Family and friends are welcome to join us for this afternoon of food, fun, ice-cream, music, and a raffle. We will also have appreciation gifts and special recognition awards for volunteers.

Other April Events

Thursday, April 15th, 1:30PM - “Storytellers Society” at Parklands- These group gatherings are a wonderful way to share, reminisce and truly get to know the residents at Parklands Nursing and Rehab.

Thursday, April 29th, 2:30 PM - Birthday Celebration -- Help us wish a happy birthday to all residents of Parklands Nursing and Rehab with birthdays in April. Meet us in the dining room where we will have singing and cake. Volunteers are needed to help gather the residents together, serve the cake, sing, clean up, etc. Do you play an instrument or have some other talent? We are always looking for new entertainment for the party – let us know
