Nursing Home News--April 2015

This is the April 2015 newsletter of Friends Across the Ages nursing home outreach

SPRING FESTIVAL BEGINS FRIDAY—

CONTINUES ALL NEXT WEEK!

Have you ever thought about visiting a nursing home? Are you a regular Friends volunteer who wonders what visiting the other nursing homes might be like? Friends Across the Ages is hosting a weeklong festival of events at each of the nursing homes we serve. These events begin this Friday, April 3rd, and are open to anyone who wants to try something new—see below for a complete listing of Spring Festival events.

The festival will culminate in our annual Spring Volunteer Appreciate Party on Sunday, April 12 from 12:30-2:30 PM in the beautiful courtyard at Barr Systems. This party is our biggest event of the year so we encourage all volunteers, supporters, family and friends to join us! Please contact info@acrosstheages.org for more information or to RSVP for any of the Spring Festival events.

SPRING FESTIVAL EVENTS

Friday, April 3rd, 10:00 – 11:00 AM — Drum Circle at Palm Garden: Join us for a drum circle involving as many residents and volunteers as possible.  While it may be a bit noisy, we will have great fun as our creative self-expression fills the halls and rooms of Palm Garden

Tuesday, April 7th, 2:30 -3:30 PM– Karaoke Party at Park Meadows: Join the residents of Park Meadows for an afternoon of singing the hits from across the ages…oldies, not-so-oldies, and everything in between.  Even if you don’t want to sing, come cheer the singers on!

Wednesday, April 8th, 10:00-11:30 AM – “Spring Break in Las Vegas” at Parklands: Come watch the Parklands Nursing and Rehab dining room transform into the casino floor at the MGM Grand. Volunteers will help deal the cards or team up with residents to play poker, blackjack, craps, roulette and other games for fun and prizes. No prior gambling experience required

Thursday, April 9th, 6:00-7:00 PM- Luau and BINGO at Gainesville Health Care Center: Palm trees and sandy beaches may be far away so we’re bringing the tropics to us for our annual spring festival event!  Please join us for an evening of island treats and BINGO with the residents of GHCC.

Friday, April 10th, 10:00 -11:30 AM– “Celebrate Spring” at NFRSC: Help bring the beauty of the season indoors to enjoy with the residents of North Florida Rehab and Specialty Care. We'll be making a spring-themed craft and we need plenty of creative helpers, so bring the whole family to this kid-friendly event!

Saturday, April 11th, 2:00- 3:30 PM—Orange and Blue BINGO at Signature: Residents will come together for a BINGO party in celebration of the Gators "Orange and Blue Debut" spring football scrimmage game that day. We will have decorations, prizes, and food, and perhaps the occasional Gator cheer between Bingo games. Join us for all the festivities at Signature Health Care!

And the grand finale…

Sunday, April 12th, 12:30-2:30pm— Volunteer Appreciation Party at Barr Systems: We would like to thank all of our volunteers (old and new) for their dedication and service at this, our biggest event of the year! Family and friends are welcome to join us for an afternoon of food, music, ice cream, and special recognitions for volunteers in the beautiful courtyard at Barr Systems. We will have something for all of our volunteers so please come if you can!

Please contact info@acrosstheages.org for more information or to RSVP for any of the above events.
