“Happy New Year” from Friends Across the Ages

Happy New Year to everyone! We are proud to report that our volunteers logged close to 1,500 hours of service at nursing homes throughout Gainesville in 2010. Thank you, cherished volunteers, for brightening the lives of nursing home residents with your friendship!

As we look forward to the dawn of a new year, what better time than now to start volunteering? Spread the word to your friends and loved ones! We are always on the look out for compassionate, dedicated volunteers. For more information, please contact info@acrosstheages.org or fill out a volunteer application at: http://www.acrosstheages.org/getinvolved/application.asp

Best wishes for health and happiness in 2011!

Changes at Signature Health Care

The start of a new year brings with it a significant change to the Monday evening group at Signature Health Care. Due to a recent change in circumstances, Jean Lansford will be focusing the majority of her time and attention on the care of a special Friend who has very little family support. For this reason, Jean has decided to turn over her role as Signature Visitation Group Coordinator to Andrew and Kim Mitchell. The transition will take place in January 2011. Jean has been an outstanding coordinator and volunteer at Signature for nearly seven years, and Friends Across the Ages is immensely grateful for all of her hard work, dedication, and leadership. Thank you, Jean!

With that being said, we would like to officially welcome Andrew and Kim Mitchell to their new role as Signature Visitation Group Coordinators! Andrew and Kim both currently serve as one-to-one volunteers and Friends Across the Ages board members. In the words of Jean Lansford, “I look forward to seeing them take on this role as I am sure they will approach it with the same compassion for residents and enthusiasm they have shown in their years with Friends.” We couldn’t agree more! Thank you, Andrew and Kim!

UPCOMING EVENTS AT

NURSING HOMES

Thursday, January 6th at 1:30PM - “Storytellers Society” at Parklands- These group gatherings are a wonderful way to share, reminisce, and truly get to know the residents at Parklands Nursing and Rehab.

Thursday, January 13th at 1:30 PM – “Casino Time” at Parklands - A monthly event at Parklands Nursing and Rehab – By popular demand, Steve visits Parklands to deal blackjack and poker for the residents (who play for prizes).  He can always use some extra dealers, so let us know if you’d like to come join the fun!

Thursday, January 27th at 2:30 PM - "Birthday Celebration" at Parklands – Help us wish a happy birthday to all residents of Parklands Nursing and Rehab with birthdays in January. Meet us in the dining room where we will have singing and cake. Volunteers are needed to help gather the residents together, serve the cake, sing, clean up, etc.  Do you play an instrument or have some other talent?  We are always looking for new entertainment for the party – let us know!
