Nursing Home News--April 2013

This is the March 2012 newsletter of Friends Across the Ages nursing home outreach

SPRING FESTIVAL BEGINS TODAY!

SPRING VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION SUNDAY!

Have you ever thought about visiting a nursing home? Are you a regular Friends volunteer who wonders what visiting the other nursing homes might be like? Friends Across the Ages is hosting a weeklong festival of events at each of the nursing homes we serve. These events begin today, and are open to anyone who wants to try something new—see below for a complete listing of Spring Festival events.

The festival will culminate in our annual Spring Volunteer Appreciate Party on Sunday, April 7 from 2-4pm in the beautiful courtyard at Barr Systems. This party is our biggest event of the year so we encourage all volunteers, supporters, family and friends to join us! Please contact info@acrosstheages.org for more information or to RSVP for any of the Spring Festival events.

ANOTHER SPEAKER SERIES SUCCESS!

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Tom Rinkoski for his excellent presentation this past month on “Matching Caregiving Skills and Actions to the Stages of Progression of Dementia and Alzheimer’s.” We had a great turnout at this event, our first time holding it at the Millhopper Library. Tom is the Caregiver Coach at Elder Options, the Mid Florida Area Agency on Aging. He does Caregiver Trainings, named “Become a Savvy Caregiver,” in 16 counties in North Central Florida with special attention to caregivers working with persons with Dementia and/or Alzheimer’s. This presentation was part of our Friends Across the Ages Speaker Series, offered four times a year; all of these events are free and open to the public. Watch for more Speaker Series presentations coming up in September and November—you won’t want to miss them!
