Nursing Home News--September 2017

This is the September 2017 newsletter of Friends Across the Ages nursing home outreach

We would like to extend a very warm welcome back to all of our college student volunteers who were gone for the summer and have now returned. We know your friends at the nursing home are glad to see you and are eager to hear all your stories from the summer. We are glad you are back!

We would also like to welcome those new volunteers who have joined us since the beginning of the school year. New volunteer applications are coming in all the time. It is always so heartening to meet people who care enough to take that step of becoming a volunteer in order to share their time with our friends at the nursing homes. We are glad to have you all with us!

We had so much fun at the Karaoke Party we had at NFRSC last month that we decided to do it again, this time at Signature Health Care. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, we are able to pull up any song the residents—or volunteers—request! Please join us for some singing and refreshments on Saturday, September 23rd at 10:00 AM. If you would like to participate or have any questions, please contact us at

Each month, in addition to groups that meet weekly for regular volunteering/visitation, Friends Across the Ages sponsors a few special events and activities at various nursing homes. These events require no ongoing commitment, though we do ask you to let us know ahead of time if you plan to attend any of these events. Here are our special events for September:

Wednesday, September 6th, 10:30 – 11:30 AM – “Storytellers’ Society” at ParklandsThese monthly group gatherings are a wonderful way to share, reminisce, and truly get to know the residents at Parklands Nursing and Rehab. This month we will be reading from a book about Abraham Lincoln.
