Nursing Home News--May 2017

This is the May 2017 newsletter of Friends Across the Ages nursing home outreach

We want to express our appreciation to all who participated in our Friends Across the Ages Spring Festival, which was held March 286th-April 2nd. In particular, we would like to thank those who coordinated some of our events throughout the week, including Kim and Andrew Mitchell, Keri and Jon Shinn, and Jamie Kistler. Thank you also for all who volunteered to help with the various events, including most of our regular volunteers, plus a group of students from St. Augustine Church and Catholic Student Center.

A big thank you as well to everyone who helped with the Spring Volunteer Appreciation party which wrapped up the festival, as well as to everyone who attended. We wanted to mention those who were especially recognized at that event:

Cassie Cooper—“Spirit of Friends Across the Ages” Award

Carolina Porras –“Stick-to-It” Award

Rosha PoudyalDedication Award

Robbie Curry—Ten Year Award

Thank you to all of our amazingly dedicated and caring volunteers for all you do throughout the year!

For more about our Spring Festival, please see our “snail mail” newsletter, which will be sent out this week. If you are not on our snail mail list and would like to be added, or need to update your address, please email us at

Summer is here for our college student volunteers, and almost here for the rest of us. If you are a student volunteer who will be away for the summer, please be sure to let your coordinator know, and of course the residents you visit as well. You might consider keeping in touch with your friends at the nursing home over the summer with things like letters, cards, and phone calls.

For those out there who have been considering volunteering, or maybe had gotten away from volunteering, summer is a great time to start or return! Things are always slower for us in the summer with many of our volunteers away or traveling. Contact us at and we will give you all the information you need to get started!

Each month, in addition to groups that meet weekly for regular volunteering/visitation, Friends Across the Ages sponsors a few special events and activities at various nursing homes. These events require no ongoing commitment, though we do ask you to let us know ahead of time if you plan to attend any of these events so that we can be on the lookout for you. If you would like more information about our weekly visitation groups and becoming a regular Friends Across the Ages volunteer, please let us know that as well. Here are our special events for May:
